New unit at London Heathrow
Sim Local, the largest seller of SIM cards in the UK travel market, today unveils a new store opening in the baggage hall of Heathrow T3 as well as a new look and feel for the entirety of their airport retail estate.
The new store design has been implemented across all of Sim Local’s existing locations; T5 arrivals, T2 arrivals, T3 arrivals and their store on the approach to the Underground station. It has also been utilised in the company’s new location in the T3 baggage hall.
The design has been engineered to ensure that customers are easily able to identify and select the best value local SIM plan for their individual needs from a curated selection from leading mobile operators Three, EE and Lycamobile. Assistance continues to be on hand from Sim Local’s expert team and customers can also purchase phones and accessories.
The new store in the baggage hall of T3. which replicates the offer available in other Sim Local stores, gives inbound intercontinental travellers another convenient opportunity to purchase local SIMs and get connected quickly and easily on arrival in London. Reclaim halls are ideal locations for selling SIMs, as passengers have lengthy dwell times whilst waiting for their luggage to arrive. The store made use of an empty unit which had previously been occupied by a bureau de change. Early sales demonstrate high levels of incremental sales of SIMs in the terminal through the introduction of this additional unit.
Ian Rankin, Chief Trading Officer at Sim Local, comments: “We are excited to roll out our new store design as well as open our new store. Introducing this new small store format, in the baggage hall, to our estate will play a key role in our continued international expansion. Despite the challenge of the COVID-19 pandemic, we have been investing in our stores and expanding our reach consistently, and as travel continues to rebound are in a strong position to continue to grow our business. We look forward to welcoming customers to our stores in 2022.”
Sim Local’s Heathrow store portfolio is supported by a network of vending machines across all four terminals. They also have points of sale in several UK airports and in key European locations including Brussels and Copenhagen airports. Additionally, they work with affiliate partners such as WHSmith and InMotion in airports globally.
