Place likes Miami, San Diego and Las Vegas have become go-to Spring Break destination for travelers looking to let off steam during that brief springtime respite. However, if you really want a change in scenery and a chance to experience something different, you’ll want to look beyond the borders to find your sun-soaked fun.

From Mexico to Jamaica and all the way to Thailand, there are many beach-based locales outside the USA that offer everything you need for a Spring Break that will leave memories (and perhaps hangovers) that last a lifetime.

We crunched some numbers using Google's trending search data; searches from within the United States. Here is the ranking from lowest to highest. We expand on these goodtime hot spots to help you zero in on a destination for your ultimate, international Spring Break vacation.

10. Phuket, Thailand

Spring Breakers might be initially put off by Thailand’s far away location, but it’s important to remember how much farther your dollars go when converted to Thai Baht currency. A totally random example: a beer in Thai currency usually costs less than a dollar US. Lodging can be similarly affordable – from beach huts to full-service resorts.

Of course, there is more to this wonderful country than cheap drinks. Phuket Island, which is in southern Thailand surrounded by the Andaman Sea, offers legendary crystal-clear beaches, bustling Patong Beach nightlife, and incredible sightseeing of a region steeped in rich history. Thailand will be a few extra hours on the airplane, but it is well worth the time investment.

9. Montego Bay, Jamaica

Have you ever heard the jaunty reggae-tinged tune “Montego Bay” by Amazulu? That classic song perfectly encapsulates the sun-drenched, good vibes of this Jamaican tourist mecca. Montego Bay is on the north coast of the island and boasts beautiful white sand beaches like the ones at Doctor’s Cave and Walter Fletcher beach.

Spring Breakers looking for the all-inclusive resort experience will have plenty to choose from. And the nightclub scene over on “Hip Strip” has some of the island biggest clubs, like Margaritaville, which has an unbelievable winding three-story water slide that plunges you straight into the Caribbean sea!

8. Cartagena, Colombia

Cartagena is a truly unique Spring Break experience due to the city’s distinct mix of history, culture, and mind-melting beach parties and nightlife. The history of Cartagena is anchored by the Castillo San Felipe Fortress, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, that once protected the city from pirates and other adversaries. Within walking distance you’ll find quant shops, restaurants, and cafés along brightly colorful streets.

The Caribbean-like beaches are a quick 45-minute boat ride away in the nearby Rosario Islands, including Cholon, which is known as “the island of young travelers.” This party paradise is where party boats gather, and you can sip drinks and chill in turquoise waters sloshing over fine white sand.

7. Nassau, Bahamas

When it comes to resorts in Nassau, Bahamas, more and more tourists are heading straight for the mind-blowingly large Atlantis Paradise Island, which has 5 onsite hotels that offer world-class dining, shopping, and entertainment. However, Spring Breakers looking for something a little more raucous can find a wealth of beachfront resort options on the main island, where cruise ships regularly port.

Whether you’re looking to chill in the crystal-clear waters or hoist a margarita at Senor Frog’s, boredom won’t be an option. Want to party like a pirate? Check out Blackbeard’s Revenge, a floating dance party with DJs and entertainment on a real pirate ship!

6. Costa Rica (Tamarindo & Jaco Beach)

There are two surf towns in Costa Rica that could be your ideal Spring Break destination. The first is Jaco Beach, where you can hang ten during the day and hit the high-energy nightlife at night. Even if you’re not into surfing, you can tear up the jungle trails on ATVs or take the Monkey Mangrove tour and get up and close with the primates.

Tamarindo also offers stunning beaches with tasty waves for surfers and coastline party hot spots. There’s also outdoors-y fun like volcano and waterfall hikes to give you a taste of the local tropical nature. Lodging options are unique in Costa Rica. Think spacious tree bungalows with the occasional monkey popping through your window.

5. Playa del Carmen, Mexico

If you’re looking for a fun Spring Break, but not necessarily the party animal atmosphere of a Cancún or Cabo, Playa del Carmen offers a more laid-back vibe. Only two hours south of Cancún, Playa del Carmen offers the same beautiful white sand beaches, crystalline pools, and all-inclusive resorts.

What makes Playa stand out is its incredible plethora of activities – scuba diving, archeological day trips and cenotes, which are cavernous freshwater sinkholes unique to the peninsula region. It also offers easy access for day trips to the charming Cozumel island and historic Tulum.

4. Cabo San Lucas, Mexico

When it comes to natural beauty, you’ll be hard pressed to find beaches more stunning than the ones in Cabo San Lucas. Take the magnificent rock outcrops of El Arco or the majestic clear green waters of Playa de los Amantes. The views and sunsets are Instagram-worthy and you’ll be refreshed within a week.

And for those looking for evening action, you want be disappointed. Famed rocker Sammy Hagar didn’t write the song “Cabo Wabo” for no reason. It’s a non-stop party by the pool or beach during the day and pulsating nightclubs like Mandala, Mango Deck or El Squid Roe at night. See you on the sunset party cruise!

3. Puerto Vallarta, Mexico

Puerto Vallarta is definitely among the top 3 destinations in Mexico for Spring Break mayhem. The nightlife scene is unparallel and diverse. When the sun sets, you hear the music pulsate from live bands and top-tier DJs, as clubs and cafes open their doors along the Malecon, Zona Romantica and Los Muertos Beach’s cobbled streets.

During the daylight hours, you can choose from paradise adventure activities like zip-lining and snorkeling, and some of the best beaches on Mexico’s west coast. Gaze at the most breathtaking sunsets in Mexico while you sip a chilled margarita.

2. Cancún, Mexico

Located at the tip of the Yucatan Peninsula, Cancún is the ultimate Spring Break hotspot in Mexico. Unlike American destinations, Cancún is one of many Mexican coastal cities where you can stay in an all-inclusive resort. That means food, drinks, and lodging will all be included in your single room charge.

Of course you’re going to leave the resort occasionally, especially to explore Cancún at night, which includes the famous Coco Bongo nightclub. This place is a must-see with its electrifying spectacle of acrobats, conga lines, live bands, confetti and celebratory atmosphere. After a night like that you can lounge away the day on one of Cancun’s white coral sand beaches.

1. Punta Cana, Dominican Republic

Known for its stunning beaches, Punta Cana is on the easternmost tip of the Dominican Republic and brings in thousands of party seekers each Spring Break. You’ll have no shortage of resort choices and many offer Spring Break packages that include pool parties, booze cruises, and express entry into the hottest nightclubs.

Another big plus for Punta Cana is that it’s generally more budget-friendly compared to other beach-based destinations during Spring Break. You can get a lot more for your dinero compared to some big-name Mexican all-in resorts. Mas cerveza por favor!
